This position requires you to:

You will be part of a team delivering the Early Years Statutory Requirements as set out by the Department forEducation, Sport and Culture (in compliance with the Day Care of Children (Jersey) Law 2002) and using the Early Years Matters, Quality Framework for guidance.

Your personal qualities should include:

Being passionate about childcare, good communication skills, team working, good understanding of safety and hygiene, respectful towards children, families and colleagues. Tune into children’s needs and respond using age and stage appropriate language.

Essential qualifications:

Ideally you will hold a child care qualification to level 2 such as NVQ/CCLD Level 2 in Early Years, City and Guilds 0-7 Years, Certificate in Child Care Education, Certificate in Pre-School Practice, Introduction to working with children or the Developing skills. You must be willing to gain further child care qualifications should you not hold a level 2 qualification.

You will hold, or be prepared to gain, the following qualifications/training to meet registration requirements.

  • St Johns Ambulance First Aid for Children.
  • 6 hour Foundation Safeguarding & annual update.
  • Food Hygiene level 2 & update.

Training provided:

You will hold, or be prepared to gain, the following qualifications/training to meet registration requirements, St Johns Ambulance First Aid for Children, 6 hour Foundation Safeguarding & annual update, Food Hygiene level 2 & update, Sign up to the DBS update system. Additional in-house training during induction and ongoing.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

The Team

  • Creating a safe and stimulating environment both inside and outside where children can learn and develop by following the Development Matters framework.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with all staff.
  • Working with all staff to ensure equality of opportunity and inclusivity for children, parents and staff.
  • To contribute ideas into planning of children’s interests through appropriate activities. To evaluate activities and planning on a regular basis.
  • To be able to use your initiative to set up activities in your designated area.
  • To support new staff and students within the setting.
  • To attend all staff meetings and room meetings and continue to develop your practice through attending relevant courses.
  • To support full time staff in caring for children during outings as legally required and following the Centrepoint procedures.

The Parent

  • Recording and passing on any appropriate information required by Centrepoint policies and procedures, maintaining this information as laid down in the policies.
  • Maintaining close effective working partnerships with parents/carers to ensure the well-being of their children.
  • Have effective communication with the parents.

The Child

  • Each Nursery Assistant is responsible to support full time staff in caring for the children in the nursery and should be aware of the overall care of all the children within the nursery and on outings.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with children while ensuring equality of opportunity.
  • Being pro-active in recognising that children are individuals, acknowledging their right to have a role in defining their environment and respecting their learning and play.
  • To contribute to observing, monitoring and recording the development of each child in their key worker group.

Outside Agencies

  • Maintaining effective working relationships with, students and all relevant external agencies.

Accountabilities

You are accountable to the Nursery Officers, Team Leader, Practice Manager and Nurseries Coordinator:

  • The care and development of the children in your care.
  • Effective communication with parents/carers and other staff for your key children.
  • Adhering to the Statutory Requirements for Early Years at all times.
  • Following the Policies and Procedures as set out by Centrepoint.
